Illinois

This is the state of the Illini Indians who have long since gone. First the French to Illinois andestablished a fort near to where a river flowed into a big Lake. The big lake is Lake Michigan, the river the Chicago River and the place current downtown Chicago. The whole state is known to the outside world really only for this City. AlthoughIllinois has a wonderful outdoors in the South ofthe state near the capital, Springfield, most visitors will probably stick around Chicago. Whatever you decide to do you will enjoy yourself, but expect to make a lot of miles in a rented carif you want to leave the city.

Chicago is the most famous of all the cities in Illinois, and with good reason. It is the crown jewel of the Midwest, after all. But other Illinois cities can show visitors a good time, too. Springfield is the state’s historic state capitol, and Galena has a lovely downtown area.
